All-Star Game

NHL All-Star Game - The 2007-08 NHL All-Star Game was held at the Philips Arena in Atlanta on January 27, 2008. Versus, CBC, and RDS carried the game.

National Broadcasters

Canada (English)

CBC - "Hockey Night in Canada" broadcasts Saturday doubleheaders starting at 7 PM Eastern time, with the "Scotiabank Saturday Night" pre-game show, with Ron MacLean and Don Cherry, at 6:30 PM EST. In addition, they will air selected weeknight games. 7 PM Saturday games are generally called by Bob Cole and Harry Neale -- they usually do the Maple Leafs game if there are two games in the timeslot. Vancouver's Jim Hughson calls the 10 PM Saturday games with Craig Simpson or Greg Millen. CBC also has the All-Star Game, extensive Stanley Cup Playoff coverage, and exclusive Canadian coverage of the Stanley Cup Finals. Due to the unbalanced NHL... schedule, CBC's "Hockey Day in Canada" included American teams for the first time, as the Western and Eastern Canadian teams didn't play each other this season. "Hockey Day in Canada" was be held on February 9, 2008, with four games: Detroit at Toronto (3 PM ET), Edmonton at Calgary or Montreal at Ottawa (7 PM ET), Colorado at Vancouver (10 PM ET). In March 2007, the CBC and the NHL signed a new 6-year agreement, from the 2008-09 to the 2013-14 season.  CBC plans to air every Montreal Canadiens Saturday night game to Quebec and other regions in 2008-09.

TSN - TSN has rights to a national package featuring national exclusivity on Wednesday nights plus early-round Stanley Cup Playoff coverage. In addition, they'll have exclusive southern-Ontario coverage of selected Maple Leafs games.  In June 2008, TSN's parent (CTVglobemedia) and the NHL signed a new 6-year agreement, covering the 2008-09 to 2013-14 seasons.  Wednesday exclusivity will continue, and all 70 TSN regular-season games will include at least one Canadian team.  One post-season first-round series can feature a Canadian team, the first time coverage of a Canadian team in the Stanley Cup Playoffs would move over from CBC.

NHL Network - The network, a digital-tier network, carries 40 live games across Canada.

Canada (French)

RDS - TSN's French-language arm is the national broadcaster of the full schedule for the Montreal Canadiens, with exclusivity in Quebec. Pierre Houde and Yvon Pednault call the action. RDS also carries a selection of other NHL games. They'll carry as much of the Stanley Cup Playoffs as they can.

Reseau Info-Sports -- RDS's second network carries approximately 50 live games a year.

United States

NBC - 2007-08 is the third year of NBC's 3-year contract.  The NHL and NBC have reportedly picked up the option for a 4th year, contingent on a 2009 Winter Classic at New York's Yankee Stadium. The network will carry a flexible schedule of mid-to-late-season Sunday "Game of the Week" broadcasts. It started with the NHL Winter Classic outdoor game, Pittsburgh at Buffalo on January 1, 2008.  Several games were made available, with NBC picking one and returning the rest to local broadcasters (and moving those games to evening time slots, 13 days before game time). They'll also have Stanley Cup Playoff coverage: weekend playoff games and prime-time coverage of games 3 thru conclusion of the 2008 Stanley Cup Finals. Mike Emrick and Ed Olczyk are lead announcers for NBC coverage. There will be no studio show in the 2007-08 season, with Pierre McGuire and Mike Milbury doing pre-game and intermission shows from the site of the Game of the Week.  NBC is expected to extend the deal through 2010 to coincide with their coverage of the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Versus - Comcast's Versus is the NHL's cable partner, under a deal through 2010-11. They'll carry a 58-game regular-season package (mostly Mondays and Tuesdays, the selected games are exclusive to Versus), the All-Star Game, extensive Stanley Cup Playoff coverage, and the first 2 games of the Stanley Cup Finals. Mike Emrick is lead play-by-play announcer for Versus coverage, with a cast of thousands :) of color commentators.

NHL Network - The US version of Canada's NHL Network, supported by Comcast as part of the Versus deal, is becoming available on digital cable tiers across the US. The network is expected to carry about 50 non-exclusive games in 2007-08, using one of the teams' regional feeds.

HDNet - HDNet will carry two games a week, usually on Thursday and Saturday nights, in 1080i high-definition video. Game telecasts are produced by HDNet with Judd Sirott, Larry Murphy, and John Vanbiesbrouck. Games are chosen roughly 60 days in advance.

Satellite/Digital Cable

NHL Centre Ice - A subscription package, showing all out-of-market games including CBC and Rogers SportsNet coverage, to American viewers with the DirecTV satellite system or many digital cable systems.

Satellite Radio

XM Satellite Radio - For the 2007-08 season, XM takes over as exclusive satellite radio home of the NHL (although, with the pending XM/Sirius merger, "exclusive" is in the eye of the beholder). NHL Home Ice is on XM 204, and game coverage is on XM 204-209 and 237-238.

Webcasting

NHL.com - Every audio broadcast of every NHL game is available free at NHL Game Radio, unlike a certain so-called "National Pastime"... sponsored by DirecTV.

NHL Centre Ice Online - available at www.nhl.tv, it's the online version of the satellite/cable Centre Ice package.
